1.
[Verse 1] People rush to keep from thinking But I never rush at all Never lose myself in drinking I sit alone with my thoughts [Chorus] Closed my eyes but I'm not sleeping I'm only lost in my thoughts [Verse 2] Ideas are crowding in my mind And I think I've seen it all I know I've seen through many lies And I find solace in deep thought
2.
Sometimes it seems I chase other people's dreams But not my own And I spend my whole life Diverted from my path My ambitions unfulfilled Till I no longer dream Just think what might have been I'm in a dangerous mood, and I don't care If the whole world burns down Cos at least then I'd have peace, and I'd be left alone To do whatever I please Sometimes it seems I spend every waking moment Dousing other people's fires And other people's problems Take up all my time I work on them instead of mine And maybe I won't care To let them all just burn And maybe then I'll have my turn I'm in a dangerous mood, and I don't care If the whole world burns down Cos at least then I'd have peace, and I'd be left alone To do whatever I please
3.
[Verse 1] It went on for so long Like it had to be that way And no one ever questioned The wisdom of the day And now all those assumptions Left unquestioned in the past Seem suddenly unwise Now we question them at last [Chorus] We knew it had to happen We knew it in our bones Those monuments to hubris Now reduced to sticks and stones In truth, it had to happen It went on much too long And all the truths they told us Were lies we've proven wrong [Verse 2] But still they stand their ground And repeat self-serving lies Resisting till their dying breath The changes they despise But change will come no matter how They fight and they resist For now the lie is known to us We know that truth exists
4.
They've polished all the brass-work And they've scrubbed down all the decks The navigator spreads his charts Coordinates are set The captain sails this ship of life Into the land of dreams And soon they'll come to foreign ports Where nothing's as it seems And all the while the pilot With his hand upon the wheel Guides them through these traitorous seas Where nothing is quite real For sailing the sub-consciousness Requires a skilled hand And all upon that fateful trip Will learn what it demands Three days in, a storm appears Upon those choppy seas They sail into a nightmare That will bring them to their knees But the captain knows his vessel And he reassures the crew He's sailed through many storms before And he will guide them true And as the crew grow weary Of their voyage through the mind They share their wistful stories Of the thoughts they left behind And after many weeks at sea As hope becomes despair The captain finds his foreign port And lands his vessel there And in the land of rummy dreams The sailors take their leave They find more wealth and wisdom Than a sane man could believe And when they've had their fill Of all their sub-consciousness owns They climb once more upon the ship And sail their vessel home
5.
Daydreamer 03:27
[Verse 1] Don't need to sleep to dream I dream what might have been I dream what might yet be And in my mind I see The world laid bare The truth that's there And whatever I might dare [Verse 2] Every day I dream And every time I see All that I could do The bring to life my dreams To take that chance To dance that dance And embrace that circumstance [Chorus] Cos I dare to dream And I won't be ashamed And my daydreaming mind Sets the world all aflame [Verse 3] Some people fear to dream And others would suppress The visions in my head That cause them such distress But I am free And I will dream And what I dream will be [Coda] I will believe in And follow my dreams And no one can stop What my mind's eye can see
